How Olive oil prevent heart diseases

The general population (everyone) knows by now that olive oil has many
health benefits. When you substitute it in your diet for polyunsaturated
fats, saturated fats and/or monounsaturated fats it can help to reduce
blood pressure, lessen symptoms of asthma and arthritis, inhibit the
growth of some cancers, and maintain a lower body weight. So basically,
olive oil is good for you.

Researchers of the Mediterranean diet have found that using olive oil
contributes to a decrease in many diseases such as heart disease,
diabetes, arthritis and others.

Olive oil contains natural antioxidants and a high amount of
monounsaturated fats. Monounsaturated fats have been proven to lower total
and LDL (bad) cholesterol levels. The antioxidants protect against free
radicals that are generated by the environment. They can cause many
ailments and degenerative diseases.

So you are probably thinking by now that you should add more olive oil to
your diet. The thing to remember though is that olive has about 120
calories per tablespoon. That is a pretty high amount. You can make up for
it though by decrease other sources of fat in your diet that you do not
really need and are not any good for you anyway. Things such as butter,
margarine, high-fat foods and spreads (like oleo).

If by some chance you need to increase your calorie intake because of
illness, a highly active lifestyle or your just one of those lucky people
who does not gain weight olive is a great way to increase calories.
Drizzle some on your salads, vegetables, sandwiches or pizza.

Before you decide that something is fattening though consider its quality.
If it has a good nutrient value, healthy promoting benefits the calories
are worth it. This certainly pertains to olive oil.

The greatest benefit of olive oil is its ability to prevent heart disease.
People who eat the wrong kinds of fats, a condition called atherosclerosis
(hardening of the arteries), occur in their bodies. This is when particles
of LDL cholesterol stick to the wall s of their arteries and block them
making it difficult for blood to flow through them.

These particles buildup in the arteries and from something called plague.
This causes the workload of the heart to be greater and it has trouble
oxygenating the entire body. It can result in a stroke or heart attack.
Olive oil had good fats (monounsaturated), antioxidants (chlorophyll,
vitamin E, carotenoids) in it.

These along with a compound identified by scientists called oleuropein
prevent the LDL from oxidizing in the body. This oxidized cholesterol is
what forms the plague in the arteries by sticking to the walls. If your
replace bad fats in your diet with good fats, like that in olive oil you
can lower your blood pressure and decrease you risk of heart attacks.

In addition, just a tip to keep in mind is that virgin olive oil is richer
in antioxidants than refined olive oils but they are all good for your
body and your health.
