leeches leech mehdi Causes of Phobia by mehdi jaffari

Although many researchers have tried to establish the cause of phobia, this disorder still has an unknown cause. It is commonly believed that the cause of phobia and other anxiety disorders can be associated with genes, irregularity in brain chemistry and previous experiences.

Some experts say that phobias run in families. For instance, someone whose immediate family members have a history of hydrophobia (fear of water) is much more likely to have hydrophobia than somebody else whose family has no history of hydrophobia.

Some cases of phobia may also be attributed to the amygdala that is located in the limbic system of the brain. The amygdala is responsible for the regulation of fear and aggression. When a person experiences fear, the amygdala release hormones to alert the body and prepare it for defense. This is called the “flight-or-fight response.”

Childhood experiences are also believed to be a cause of phobias. Someone who has had a traumatic childhood experience – especially a near-death one – may carry his or her fear of the same experience and of the objects associated with this experience into adulthood. For instance, someone who has been in a serious car accident when he or she was a child will probably never learn how to drive or will probably be afraid to ride in a car. Meanwhile, someone who has nearly died from a snake bite when he or she was younger will probably be intensely afraid of snakes; the mere thought of them may even make him or her feel intense fear.

Many people have a phobia. However, such people usually avoid the object of their fear. They also usually avoid anything that will put them in the situation they fear. Thus, their phobias are usually left undiagnosed and untreated.

Unfortunately, extreme phobia can lead to serious repercussions. People who have phobias may resort to social isolation, may engage in harmful or risky activities (e.g. substance abuse), or may experience depression. Ultimately, their phobia may render them unable to lead normal lives.

Conclusion

Phobias are disorders that require professional and medical attention. If you have reason to believe that you have a phobia, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible. Only this way can you prevent your phobia from negatively impacting your normal functions and from leading to graver consequences and further complications.

Taking action and facing your fears is never an easy task, and you need all the help and support that you can get. Before you can get such support, however, you need to take the first step and seek help for yourself

Cardiovascular Disease and Leech Therapy leeches and heart deases

leeches leech mehdi leech (Hirudotherapy) therapist

Since the early days of the 20th century, people have been using leeches to treat cardiovascular diseases because of the Hirudin enzyme in the leeches saliva, a substance which has systemic anticoagulative effects. A physician would usually prescribe the use of leeches when a person suffered a stroke or heart attack.  Also, Hirudin stimulates segmental reflex mechanisms and this contributes to the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

Hirudin and Drugs

It was only when anticoagulants such as aspirin and heparin were invented that the use of leeches declined. The effects of aspirin which are the inhibition of platelet aggregation and for the dissolving of thrombus or embolus, or thrombolysis, were found to be much more effective in treating cardiovascular conditions. However, scientists began to investigate further uses of Hirudin for cardiovascular conditions and they found Recombinant Hirudin was useful for Myocardial Infarctions (MI) and unlike heparin; hirudin was actually a direct thrombin inhibitor which did not need to have a cofactor like antithrombin III. Also, hirudin could inactivate fibrin-bound thrombins. However, the effects of the drugs derived from hirudin were much too potent and caused quite massive hemorrhagic adverse effects. Because of this, hirudin was not considered a good primary treatment for myocardial infarction; however, they found that it was a good treatment for Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia Type 2.

Natural Leech Therapy

Natural leech therapy that is, the actual application of live leeches on the skin, was believed to have been an effective treatment for thrombosis and other coronary syndromes and Leeches have also been used to treat hypertension. Because leeches suck a hosts blood and its hirudin has anticoagulation, it may cause hypovolemic hemodilution which are two of the things that will reduce the pressure of the blood flow on the walls of the blood vessels, thus leading to reduction in blood pressure. However, it should be noted that since there are much more effective treatments for the reduction of blood pressure, such as anti-hypertensive drugs, leech therapy is now mostly considered as an adjuvant therapy rather than an actual first-line treatment.

leeches therapy for veins Effects of Leech Therapy to Patients with Vascular Diseases by mehdi jaffari

Treating Vascular Diseases with Leech Therapy

One of the biggest killer diseases in our society today are vascular diseases. These can be hardening of the arteries or the veins, compromised blood flow due to narrowing of the vessels, formation of fatty plaques or deposits that impede normal blood flow and thickening of the vessels, just to name a few. Vascular disease can be caused by many factors, some of which are hypertension, the foods that we eat, obesity, our lifestyle, such as smoking and drinking, and inactivity. In the long run, these can lead to problems of the heart, the brain, and extremities.

Now, there are many pharmacological treatments that can reduce the progression of vascular diseases, but prolonged use of medicines can lead to side effects including organ complications. People who wish to try a different route for the treatment of vascular disease often choose Hirudotherapy or leech therapy.

The Leech Therapeutic Saliva

It is in the leeches saliva that has been known to cure or prevent diseases. Their saliva has over 100 bioactive substances that are very beneficial. One such component is hirudin, which acts as an anticoagulation agent. Calin is another component that also inhibits blood coagulation. A component that dissolves fibrin clots as well as inhibits the formation of thrombus is the destabilase. Leech saliva also contains a Factor Xa inhibitor, and this compound restrains the coagulating effect of the coagulation Factor Xa. It also has hyaluronidase that enhances the viscosity of the interstitial fluid. For vasodilating effect, it has acetylcholine and histamine-like substances as well as carboxypeptidase A inhibitors. These three can increase blood flow by dilating constricted vessels. These are just some of the very useful components in leech saliva.

Now, how do these various components work to treat patients with vascular problems?
